Description

10 June, 2005 Support of NHPRC and the 2006 Budget

The President’s FY 2006 budget eliminates funding for NHPRC grants and staff to administer the grants. The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) is the grant making arm of NARA. NHPRC makes grants to institutions for preservation of historical records and to make historical records more accessible.

In the President’s budget, NHPRC has been targeted for zero funding for grants and zero funding for staff to administer the NHPRC and its grants program. If funds are not restored, that in effect eliminates this grants program.

The Council of State Historical Records Coordinators (COSHRC) has created an online petition to continue to express to Congress public interest in restoring of funding for NHPRC.
