Delaware Senate Bill
81: An Act to amend the Delaware code relating to certificates
of release or discharge from active military service (DD FORM 214).
This bill makes military discharge records confidential, inaccessible
to the public, and not subject to the Delaware Freedom of Information
Act. It does not contain any exception for older records.
The genealogical community could support SB 81 if it contained an
exception that read:
"A military service discharge record for a veteran discharged from
service more than seventy (70) years from the current date and filed
with the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs shall be a public
record."
