On June 30, 2003, the Huron County General Health District
confiscated about 20 rolls of LDS microfilm containing vital statistics
from the Norwalk Public Library in Norwalk, Ohio. The microfilm was bought
by the Huron Genealogical Society who kept it at the Norwalk Public
Library. The society is considering legal action against the Health
District in an effort to regain the films.

1 November 2003 - The Huron County, Ohio Health Department
was ordered by Prosecutor Russell Leffler to return 20 rolls of microfilm
to the Norwalk Public Library that had been confiscated by the health
department on June 30, 2003. The library reports that the films are back
on display. Meanwhile, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has stated that
they do not agree with the decision. ODH is adhering to the November 15th
deadline for return of vital statistics collections to their office.
