Washington State Senate Bill 5403, Limiting Disclosure of Birth Certificates, would have severely limited access to birth certificates. A substitute bill was introduced which included provisions for unrestricted access to a birth certificate after the death of the registrant. The bill was not processed through committee prior to the March 7 legislative cutoff and will have to be reintroduced next year. The process for obtaining Washington State birth certificates remains the same as in the past, without unnecessary restrictions.
